Have another rum that'll warm you up!

OL - at this rate we'll have matching gardens! With our lavenders and Alliums being big on my list right now image

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. It is today. Have unfortunately found out that the hot chocolate machine is using a different powder today that contains my evil enemy so will be spending much of today scuttling back and forth from the ladies image

Pdoc if we're keeping you sane than I pledge my bestest to keep up with the wafflings! Enjoy your birthday tomorrow image

Clari, I also have more Euphorbias on my list, Hostas and tulips, oh and possibly another Agapanthus as mine don't appear to be doing much! I want to actually make a lavender border eventually image

Quite nice here as well Verd - yesterday was vile though image Couldn't agree with you more about depression and the garden.

Doc- you know we all miss you very much so please keep looking in and check your PMs now and again too. Hope you have a lovely meal  image

I love Cannas and have had them in different gardens over the years. OL - I got a bargain one at B&Q last autumn - £4. They always have loads at that time of year. Wet heavy soil is no good for them and the wind can shred them so I have to watch where I site mine. This garden is very exposed though, so I'm having to keep my sole one a bit protected just now which is a pain. Once the extension is built it'll help a lot and I will have more sheltered bits for them. The dark ones are lovely but I went for a green/gold one this time for a change. The flowers are stunning on them.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

When I walk my dogs there is a house with 2 huge ones in pots by the front door, they look gorgeous. Until recently I've only ever seen them in bouquets and thought they were maybe a but too exotic for this country, it seems I was wrong image I would put mine in front of the back hedge as that provides a really good shield from the wind that tends to blow over the field at the back......already planning and not even got the plant!

OL - I've got to dig up the tulips when they go over to move into more suitable places (not sure where - but they were too pretty to dig up and throw away) and am thinking of having the lavender along the path up the middle of the garden. Its got half a border there but some are very woody so I think will need cuttings taking and eventually digging up when the time comes. I've already planted the lavenders I brought with me along that edge to fill in the gaps. My onions have proven that anything delicate just don't belong so close to big feet - at least lavender will smell nice when they get knocked especially as I need to start considering dog proofing into the future design and want to have anything on the lawn side suitable for hens so that we can put netting up when we're in at the weekend to give them a larger space to run around rather than being in their coop all day (aiming for a coop designed for 8 at least while only having 3 as its really important for me that they get as much space as possible).

Considering that we don't yet own a coop much less any chickens, and a dog is a long way in the future, is it wrong that I am already mentally working out how I can get a small freezer into my girl shed to host food and mental stimulation type treats for the animals? (Not to mention it can then cope with any glut in the vegetable plot when we get that going!) I over think things far too much and just get carried away. Truth be told its a good job I struggle to remember my pin number on my card else you can imagine my coming home with all sorts!!

I've a list (I put it somewhere safe image ) of plants to avoid around chickens and dogs - I must dig it out and check there's nothing on it that I'm planning on getting!

I miss having my neighbours dog to walk. You used to be ever so (unwittingly) nosy looking in at other peoples gardens and seeing things grow and change! That's is a perk of the Land Rover I guess - I can see over hedges!! image

    Happy birthday Clari.

Verdun you are so right about free plants. I get much more pleasure from pants I have grown from: seed, cuttings or division, than i do from bought plants [ not that it stops me from buying plants ] I also find that I am much more likely to try free plants in slightly odd situations, I figure that if they dont do, it hasnt cost me anything.

I love cannas, although the OH has a slight problem, in that I start them in the house in March, and they dont go outside till June. It was alright when I only had a couple, but its more of a problem now I have over a dozen.

How can you lie there and think of England
