I only think of 2 or 3 days in advance too, but there is always something in the freezer. I buy fish when there's a promotion, have one meal and freeze the rest. I always think of something to do with the leftovers too, hate throwing food away. Tonight it's simple, burgers and salad with chips for OH. French burgers aren't like English ones. They are just lean beef minced and formed into burgers, almost like tender steak. Tonight's are 5% fat, you can get them 15% fat too. No additives.

  • Hi all,

Sitting in hospital waiting room waiting for results of X-ray etc. Feel a lot better now but half my face is still strangely swollen and a bit tender. Still four more days of antibiotics to go so I suppose I shall just have to be patient. Getting plenty of sleep so don't feel quite as washed out as before.

Glad to read you are feeling better WW, sorry about OH, congratulations on new floor and prospect of quieter neighbours. image

Lizzie new sewing machine sounds fab. image

Lily P glad you are on the mend too, steady away though.

Pat, so sorry to hear you are ill now again, very best wishes.

Dove, your dinners sound fab, wish I had more of an appetite. image

Will catch up later, take care all. image

That menu plan is unusually 'meaty' for us  - we usually have fish at least once a week - I often get some from the harbour when I visit Ma, and a fish van visits the farm shop on Sundays and Wednesdays - I might go down to Southwold Harbour on Tuesday when I visit Ma, in which case I'll either freeze what I get or we'll alter the planned menu.

And now I've heard that Wonky's visiting on Thursday and we'll have lunch in the city together, so I may get some fish from one of the very good fish stalls on the market, causing yet another change of plan - but things can always be popped in the freezer image

LilyP - love a good organic chicken image  Tonight's supper is the fourth meal from a lovely organic chicken we had from the farm shop - we had pot-roast chicken with veg and potatoes that were cooked in the pot with it, then I made some of the resulting stock into a cream sauce to serve with some of the chicken and veg re-heated and the same mix has also been made into a chicken ham and asparagus pie (with the addition of half a pack of sandwich ham and some asparagus that's been languishing in the freezer as there wasn't enough to do much with).

Now the carcass has been stripped and is simmering with the rest of the stock and some more veg and some pearl barley - about 40 mins before serving I'll add some chunks of potatoes and 20 mins later I'll add a load of sliced leeks.  I might add some suet dumplings as well image  There'll be plenty for the two of us for supper and for OH to take to work for his lunch.

BL - you can get burgers like that in the UK - they're not all horrid flat cardboard with loads of additives.  Waitrose fresh ones are great - that being said I usually make my own from some good minced beef and seasoning.

Hope the swelling goes down soon DD, glad you are sleeping.

Look forward to buying fish in Southwold Harbour and/or the City image Must look out for Waitrose burgers, but it won't be our local supermarket, which it was in Eastbourne. Never noticed them.

BL. when you come to Norwich for the day from your cottage, our local Waitrose just off the A11 will be very convenient for you - there's also one in Wymondham which may be even better for you.

  • Good afternoon all,

Sorry Pat is so poorly also DD and WW's OH. Glad Hosta and OH seem a bit better. Hope all feel better soon.

Sorry to rub it in but I've had a lovely few hours in the garden with my pup 'helping'. It's good to have company in the garden again. My old German Shepherd would rather stay indoors in his last few months.

I took Kizzy to dog training classes last night and things she does quite well at home was a disaster in the class. She was so excited by the other dogs and  really showed me up. She was the youngest so hopefully she improve soon. It's like having your child back at school again and wanting them to be top of the class.

Hope everyone soon has a bit better weather soon.

Just had another look at Kizzy's photo, she is lovely. Normal that she gets excited in class, she's still a child!

Been grey and drizzly all day.
