Hi Busy L. I'm sure you're going to love your Janome. I've had Janome sewing machines and overlockers for quite a few years and I wouldn't have any other.
Hosta you must be the same vintage as my Mum. She sadly passed away a few years ago now but she still had her Singer Treadle sewing machine and it was all she ever used. Sadly I couldn't keep it because she lived on the other side of Australia and, as you know, those machines are very very heavy. Would have cost me a heap to bring it home. Instead I gave it to a fellow who had set up a display of vintage sewing machines. Better to be somewhere like that than end up destroyed.
As against all your cold temps, it reached 40 degrees here today. Storm building up now and rain predicted for tomorrow. The plants will smile!
I too had my granny's treadle Singer - I did my dressmaking O Level pieces on it then it broke down and we couldn't find anyone to repair it - all they wanted to do was sell me an electric one. Pa put it into one of the rooms in the back wing of the house that were used for storing useful things, but eventually, unknown to me, it was sent to the dump
I've had several electric machines since, but I'd love to have that old treadle back.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hostafan, they are based on the full face diving masks that you see presenters use, so that they can talk to the camera. I wish they would just dub it instead. waving arms around underwater, talking to a camera is silly. I dont use my snorkel much, and I need a prescription bifocal mask, and the types of mask that can be fitted with prescription lenses is very limited. I think if you are just surface snorkelling, lying flat in the water, they are a good idea. You wouldn't get a good salt water nasal washout , though. that you get with a normal leaky mask.
I don't do any sewing, beyond repairing hems when they come down, and sewing on buttons. I hold the record low marks for needlework at my school. 19 %
I sent RB a PM, don't have her email, haven't had a reply yet, but I only sent it this morning.
My Mum had a Singer with a handle to turn. It wasn't as easy as the treadle one at school. There were electric ones too. I wasn't going to say , but then thought, why not, I would have said if I'd got a lower mark, I got distinction in needlework.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I made all the curtains for several houses on mine / my granny's and made maternity clothes for my , now, ex wife and baby clothes for my girls too.
It's still in perfect working order and I think , according to my dear late mother, it's never even had a new belt.
Has anyone emailed runnybeak?
I don't want to be a pest if everyone else has emailed her.
Everything on my Mum's machine was the original too, belts etc. Only needles changed and a bit of oil added now and then. They were made to last.
Shame yours couldn't be repaired Dove.
