    Morning all.

40C Ginger? - hope you dont need to do too much in that heat. Have experienced it in the Californian desert but that was a very dry heat so seemed much less than the mercury reading. However, everyone was wearing lightweight sweaters because they were just walking abt 20 yards from airconditioned buildings to airconditioned cars and the temperature inside the bulidings was a relatively chilly 20C. About as unhealthy & 'ungreen' as you can get - and they had automatic irrigation systems everywhere to keep the verges and lawns green - pumping out gallons in the hottest part of the day!

In contrast it was a chilly -4C here at 7.30am. Another sparkling day & pretty with the frost.

Still ploughing through paperwork & admin - its that time of year when its good to have a good sort out.

Hope the car gets fixed BL and everyone starts feeling better soon. Someone in the office yesterday was full of lurgy - First Defence being sniffed.

    SYL.

  • It's kind of a reverse hibernation here Topbird. We hibernate in summer rather than winter. We have it sorted pretty well though. Do outside work either in the morning or after the sun goes down. I mowed grass for a couple of hours between 5pm and 7pm tonight. Then watered my pot plants. Anything outside only gets watered when it rains. Certainly never water the grass. We're rather lucky here. We'll get a few really hot days then a storm and rain. Rained 3 days last week - about 12 inches all up - and rain predicted for this coming weekend. I don't live in the city and we have our own water storage tanks. I have a couple of extra ones for my pot plants. Those I water by hand. I grow a few veges in polystyrene tubs set up as self watering pots. I'm sure you've seen them on Gardening Australia. They're brilliant. Only need to fill the reservoir about once a week, even in hot weather. My herbs are grown in a shadehouse, again with self-watering tubs.

I must admit we do have air conditioning but don't use it all that often. Put ceiling fans on and shut the house up and it stays quite cool, until it gets to 40 degrees then I'm hibernating with the air cond. I like to think we're reasonably kind to the environment.

    Morning all.

Ginger, I live in SW France and in summer it's often over 30° - I don't like it! It can be colder here in winter than in England. I love England.

That link worked, Dove. What a terrifying experience.

I'm going to make marmalade today and perhaps sew a couple of cushions with left over curtain material.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

just watched a prog about stem cell treatment for MS.  What a wonderfui hope  for any with MS.  Sufferers were walkimg, swimming, cycling and more since participating in the project.   There are exciting developments for cancer and diabetes too.

Yes, I watched that with interest too (have a vested interest inasmuch as I have MS) perhaps nothing relevant for me personally, but it does bode well for future sufferers.

Good morning everyone/ afternoon Pat and Ginger image thanks SGL image

Really interesting reading how you overcome gardening issues with the heat where you are Ginger. I'm in Suffolk in the UK and don't cope well in the heat, even gets too hot for me here! In the height of summer I keep the curtains shut to keep the light out in an attempt to keep the house cool! Don't think I would cope very well where you are! image

Really cold and frozen here but no snow, can't see anything thawing any time soon though!

Felt sorry for Flatters the stray shed cat so built him a new catcave, here he is modelling it image

Wonky - message for Flatters from Harry (aka Harry Potter aka Potty) -  "Budge up - looks cosy in there. Nothing like a comfy hidey box is there?"

You're as soft a touch as me Wonky image

Hope you're feeling a bit better today - tooth, ear and sinus ache - nothing like them for making you as miserable as sin - every movement hurts & it's impossible to think straight about anything.
