Wow Dove, you sure know how to cook!  We always have our Christmas meal on the evening before, and then have a "no-food preparation day" on 25th where the kids were allowed to pick at anything they fancied, whether chocolates, cold meat or anything they could reach. Just a day of opening presents, playing with toys and adults doing nothing!  This started when we were living in Darwin and it was too hot to have a hot roast dinner in the middle of the day.  We still keep the practice after all these years And revel in it. We don't drink alcohol, so that's no hardship for us to go without.

i hope your mother has a lovely Christmas. It must be awful for you, trying to juggle everything.

Fidget, that experience in Egypt sounds interesting. I hope Hosta has a good time.

  • Thank you Pat image  Although confused I'm sure Ma will really enjoy Christmas - the fantastic staff at The Lovely Home will see to that - the chef always cooks a fantastic roast turkey meal for them and some of the Trustees come in to carve the turkey and pull crackers and play games to ease the pressure on the staff.  It really is a fantastic place and we are very lucky.  My brother lives a bit closer than I do, and the roads his way are better, so as long as all is well on the farm he'll pop over in the morning and help Ma open her presents.

Morning/afties all. Very dark and wet here. Is this the shortest day or is it tomorrow? I can't remember image

Saw that fidget. Not getting involved - best ignored, reported, and left to the mods. Don't think it's helpful when others descend into a slanging match though. Season of goodwill.... image

Hope your rearranged holiday's as good as you hope for Hosta. image

We'll have a similar meal to you Pat. The girls are going to their Dad's on Christmas Day, around one-ish, (we do it year about) so we'll have our dinner on Christmas Eve when I get back from work, and I'll have leftovers on the day itself. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Good morning all,

Very misty here and seems eerily quiet outside, can't even hear the birds. image It won't last long though, Charlie has a friend coming over for the day - arriving at 9:30 and sleeping over - going to be a hectic day, we have 'baking and making' planned with a trip to some more friends later to deliver Christmas presents to their dogs. image

Glad you have your holiday sorted Hosta. image

Have a lovely day everyone. image

Hi Fairygirl. Yes we like the relaxed day, but I must say Dove's effort sounds rather special.image

  • Our Christmas Day will be very relaxed Pat - everything will be made or prepped beforehand - the only cooking needed on the day is to pop the lobsters under the grill image

    Good morning, hi Patimage

Pat I'm glad the weather has been a bit more bearable today and that you have a bit more rain.

Fairy I love your tree trio.  What a great ideaimage

Dove it will be a lovely, indulgent Christmas Day for you and OH, knowing that Ma is being well cared forimage.  Your food sounds wonderfulimage.  We have traditional fare on the day with the four of us but Boxing Day is the family curry party when there will be 10 of us.

Lily - what did Poppet think of Santa? image

Hosta I'm glad you got your holiday sorted.  It must have been a horrible few days knowing you had nothing bookedimage

I'll have to read back again as I missed a lot yesterday.  We went to a lovely service of lessons and carols at OH's lovely little church which has made me feel a bit more Christmassy as did watching the recording of Countryfile. I loved the idea of the lobster pot treeimage

    Have a good day everyoneimage

    Morning all/Afternoon Pat,

Knees improved at weekend so numpty here did some digging. Knees bad as ever this morning imageimage Sometimes i astound myself at how daft i can be. However garden a bit tidier so at least something achieved. Much festive spirit sat night so quiet sunday but decorations all done and up, only menu for big day to decide on. First things first anyone have a brew on the go?
