  • Afternoon all. Day off today and it's a good job as 15 plants arrived yesterday!  First job this morning was planting a Prunus kiku-shidare-zakura (weeping cherry) in the front garden.  Always wanted one of those so hope it survives.  Spent the rest of the morning re-potting the other arrivals into slightly larger pots for overwintering.  Some of them could go in now but I prefer to give them a bit of tlc first and plant out in Spring.  Had just enough ericaceous compost left for the four dwarf azaleas!  Now waiting to get the feeling back in my fingers so I can cut back all the hellebores.image

All I've done is re-claimed my car..you don't want to know the saga about a U turn back to the dealership after 100 metres because my brake light kept coming on & off. No probs before it went in and was MOT'd 2 weeks ago. After much ado my car now safely in my garage.image

Then raked the leaves "up the road" and had a saga about Christmas day about who was cooking. Looks like me again.image Well why break the habit of the last 10yrs?  Or if I tell the truth since 1981.

Going now as Mrs. Grumpyimage  Times I wish I was still at work.

Back later when I've got a happy face , might even be tomorrow image

Hope all are okay, pain free, and have survived work.

Oh Kef that does sound a traumatic day.

May I suggest for Christmas this year you announce the menu as beans on toast* and anyone wanting any different will have to make it themselves (and clean up after).

*Best Christmas meal I have ever had was beans on toast as mothers idea of vegetarian was heavily boiled vegetables with gravy made from meat juice (I was only vegetarian as strong pain killers meant that meat seemed to make me very ill). It was such a refreshing meal after the days leading up to Christmas filled with office Christmas meals, mince pies being brought into work by suppliers, chocolate being far too accessible. I felt fantastic while everyone moaned about overly full bellies and belts being too tight!

I just wish I could suggest beans on toast to my partners family but I fear I'd be hung drawn and quartered!

  • KEF ((hugs)) at least if you're cooking it'll be done properly - that's my theory!!!

Anyone seen 4thPanda - is she back yet?

Hi Dove image and all other Forkers!

Well, my day was a good one. Pasted smile not necessary, natural one came shining through image Phew! Thanks again for all your support and hugs. You really are a lovely bunch!

Clarington, following your Christmas Day revelation, I feel I should tell of a meal a newly veggie friend of mine had yesterday. She went to a well known French chain and had the veggie option, which came complete with pigs in blankets - real sausage wrapped in real bacon! The stuffing also was a touch on the meaty side. She said that she didn't quite know what to do, as didn't like to make a fuss and ruin everyone else's meal! I'd have sent it back myself! It really is shocking that, in this day and age, some places still think sausages and bacon are vegetarian!

Kef, could people bring a course, or side dish to help ease the pressure on you?

  • KEF Christmas dinner is always down to me.

the last 16 years I've only had one year off, we went out for dinner one year £60.00 each and a room full of people we didn't know or really wanted to spend Christmas dinner with also the meal was dreadful and don't get me started on wine prices and the lack of room.

I think it's a dinner for 10 people this year, my meals are legendary plus the cludo afterwards is fun esp when you are drunk and don't really read the instruction correctly  evening is help your self and we all dress up for a murder mystery game normally 1960's dress up

    kids love it
