  • Good Morning All,

Pleased to report Shadow is well on the mend, ate a good breakfast, enjoyed a 20 minute walk (in the rain) and has now gone back to bed, but in a healthy way not a ooh I can't be bothered way if that makes sense. I am so, so relieved, OH joked he was too because he has not had his money's worth out of him yet, funny now, wouldn't have been on Thursday. image

We are supposed to be going to a plant/regional festival today but last nights guests haven't appeared yet and the next ones are due at 6pm. The show is an hour's drive away and obviously have to get the room cleaned and bed changed before we set off, was hoping to have left by now. Also the weather is pants although the garden does need it. image

I like Kniphofia, (childhood memories) and discovered one buried in the garden jungle last year and have planted a friend to go with it this year, it will have lots of red, yellows and blue colours around it once all my new plants get cracking. image

Have a nice day all, hope your weather is better than mine. image

Is the plant festival in my direction DD? Have you been to the Floralies in Saint Jean de Côle? Think it's 9th 10th May.

Hosta, I noticed that Monty pronounced Knifophia in a way I've never heard of. When I lived in Kent up to 1985 it was pronounce knife o fia, Monty said niff offia. What do others say?

What a relief about Shadow. Glad it wasn't tick fever.

  • Thanks Lizzie, we are going to the Limoges fête le Limousin", hopefully, still no sign of the guests, they didn't get in until after 1 o'clock this morning.  St Jean de Côle is on my list too and also Clairevivre next week.image

Very pleased that Shadow has made a good recovery DDimage.

Lizzie I say niff o fiaimage.  I have one this year for the first time (traffic lights) which OH chose at the GC.  I usually let him choose one plant if he's good.  Not all his choices survive thoughimage

Lizzie, I too noticed that with MD, but didn't want to be accused of bias. I pronounce it as you do, and everyone else I've ever heard , apart from the South African lady and MD.

    Devon.
  • He also said they were easy to grow from seed?? Two years running I've tried but no luck yet.

Happy that Shadow it on the mend DD now you can enjoy your weekendimage

You'll have to turn the sound up folks image  Monty said that it's pronounced Knip-hof-ia because it was named after Johann Hieronymus Kniphof (a plant collector) who pronounced his name Nip hof  - the p being next to the h doesn't make it a Greek phi as it needs Germanic rather than Greek pronunciation.

Can I have the prize for Pedant of the Day please? image
