Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

I went to the garden centre yesterday, mainly to take mum out, because dad has decided to do some dusting. This consists of flicking dust around with a feather duster until it settles again.  It was either a trip out or dig a hole in the back garden for the body.

Anyhow, the Garden Centre group has half priced all bulbs, so I added a few of those to the basket, Then I got a trolley because they had some nice glazed pots that would suit bulbs, and then I got a new Burgon and ball digging fork, because I broke the handle on mine.  It was a present over 30 years ago  so its not done bad. It will repair when I find a new handle, so I will have a spare. also it will come in handy for those "split a perennial with two forks back to back" moments. We had coffee and a scone, used some vouchers, and then headed back up the A38 to macarthur glen.  A bit of a mooch around and then home to find Dad complaining he had not had a cup of tea all afternoon. I had better go and pot the bulbs up.

Have a good afternoon everyone, dont eat too much cake.(save some for me)

Fidget, it sounds like you had a nice trip out & you've certainly had some use out of the old fork.

Lily, until your PM problem gets sorted I wonder if Daniel would pass on your email details to who you want to contact. Or maybe log out and try accessing the forum from another computer, at a library / cafe.

I've been decorating in the bathroom ready for new blinds to be fitted.image The sun is shining so I'm outside for a while, must check the stored apples and the dahlia tubers.  I've just thought of a quote about apples.

    See you all later.

Had a nice walk, first to the bank then just around about locally looking at front gardens, many still looking good. Saw one neglected garden with loads of Chinese Lanterns (?) bright orange and putting on such a display.

Stoppped off via the GC, alas bulbs still full price but came away with some anyway, tulips, dafs and crocuses again. Now to find space under the slate by the path for dafs (but what for in the summer?), then tulips and crocuses (surely not crocii) under conifers.

    Right, wrong or doesn't matter....?

1, put plastic dome cloches over monarda, Echinacea and alstromeria

2, bubble wrapped lavender pots and putting fleece over them at night

3, putting fleece over some of plants in GH overnight

    ???
