I used to have hedgehogs, years ago. Don't know what happened to them, but I do have badgers. Last winter I found an old dead one by the lawnmower in the lean to. There is a sett halfway up our drive.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I remember my last day Dove, A really strange feeling that you are leaving for the last time as you get in your car to go. I was lucky because I didn't enjoy my last year particularly so there was no great wrench or fanfare.......and I had a new house and garden in the Forest to look forward to. Smiles after that
Morning all just..... No frost here this mornig which surprised me jut lots of the wet rain stuff lol.... ground is sodden. Pottie badgers and hedgepigs do not mix at all as they both like the same food. I have badgers and have in the 9 years living here only seen 1 hedgepig and I'm sad to say it was a dead one..... have a fab day dove and remember your life free of work starts now oh how exciting. Well stuck in a cage all day now I know how budgies feel........
I am afraid that hedgehogs and badgers don't just compete for the same food, but the badger is one of the few animals capable of killing hedgehogs... they are strong enough to unravel them. The rise of one is directly related to the decline of the other.
Ww. This has troubled me for some time. I love all wild life, but there is no doubt as you say that the increase in badgers is in part the cause for the decrease in hogs. What should be done?
Another issue is the decrease in some small birds being related to the rise in number of some birds of pray.
I dont know what the answer is but I do think that some conservancy agencies are dishonest when these issues are raised.
