So sorry to hear Toby and Alys have been sacked. I really enjoyed Toby's style, As much as I like Monty Don, I think it is a step backwards. I also think Rachel is just there for her looks, she didn't add any thing to the programme before so why bring her back. MD is too organic, it is not the only way to garden. What will happen to Greenacre now. Was it just an expensive exercise by the BBC.
Iam surprised at some of the very negative comments about both Monty and Toby because I feel they each have something special to offer and it is a pity it had to be one or the other. What I have really disliked about the programme was the disjointed and rather gimmicky approach with the individual plots so feel it will be good to get back to a "real" garden. As to size, anyone who watched Alan's recent series about some of the great gardens will have understood that there are lessons and ideas for even the smallest garden.
I seem to be in a minority of one but despite her obvious knowledge and experience I find Carol Klein one of the most annoying people on television. All that OTT enthusiasm is alright in very small doses but becomes tedious after a while.
Hooray - at last the penny has dropped with the BBC! Shame you couldn't find any new blood to slot into the line up. Lets hope the production team and researchers have learnt lessons over the past few years. Making good gardening TV isn't rocket science is it, but you guys had a pretty good shot at destroying the nations favourite programme.....think on!
Quite surprised at my own reaction to the changes. I was really enjoying GW and would have enjoyed longer programmes. I am really sorry MD is coming back, Toby has been a general gardener's gardener. I didn't find Monty so accessible or inspirational - he was too specialised and rarified to be very useful. They are totally different presenters.
welcome back Monty, but please look after your health, and don`t overdo it.sad to see Toby go,I used to enjoy his programmes a few years ago with his wife Lisa.It would have made more sense bbc if you had both Toby and Monty on the show...that way you would have satisfied more viewers. I would be nice too if occasionaly you had some of the old presenters such as Bob Flowerdew to make guest appearances, I look forward to march and to retirement in 2011 to be able to have more time to garden. And to all those people complaining that Monty is not qualified because he has not been to horticultural college to obtain his knowledge.....How many of the old boys gardening for years on allotments went to college, but have years of practical hands on knowledge. GOOD LUCK MONTY have a good christmas, and look forward to march 2011
Looking forward to seeing Monty and Rachel again. Must have been hard for Toby and Alys though. Now, to make it perfect, all they have to do is to get rid of that awful orchestral theme tune and return to the lovely guitar version.
This is very unwelcome news and poorly presented by the BBC in its press release, with no mention at all of what whill happen to Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler, both of whom have brought fresh approaches and very watchable presentation styles to our GW Fridays evenings. Poor form too for not acknowledging their contributions in the past 3 years.
Monty has undeniable expertise, but, as his Around the World in 80 Gardens series showed, he has some definite non-mainstream prejudices.
Rachel de Thame would be a pale shadow of a substitute for Alys, who has always impressed me with her knowledge, skills and enthusiasm.
Regrettably, I may have to revise my Friday evening TV watching plans.
What brilliant news that Monty is to return, I am really looking forward to a new season in Monty,s garden, he has been missed. What about a programme which incorporates the keeping of chickens and bees, its very popular now and I am sure that you would get plenty of viewers.
