What plant do you regret planting?

I think that actually sounds joyful, @McRazz and I completely understand your rationale, if any is needed!  :)

This isn't really a regret but certainly a change of heart. The eupatorium is leaving - just too scraggy and the leaves and the full blooms are ugly (I like the buds and the height).

Having read an article about borage family liking damp soils, I had a light bulb moment and realised my garden is just too dry for borage. I planted it for bees years ago but it just looks awful and mouldy and collapsing most of the time. So, out it comes.

Also, Rosa New Dawn. In my garden the blooms are the colours of very old knickers that were once white. Deeply uninspiring. I have a friend who will be glad of the Eupatorium and the rose. The overhaul will free up some space for new climbing roses that add more vim.

Not a regret as i didn't plant them but i inherited some very large tree peonies. For the very short flowering period they are quite enjoyable, but for the rest of the summer they absolutely consume the flower bed (and adjacent areas) and choke out all other life. They're a very unaccommodating plant in my opinion, but remain for two reasons: OH enjoys them, and they create cover at the front of my house where i'm at a very high risk of subsidence, so shade is important.
  • Nothing dreadful so far, but the garden is only in year 2 so plenty of time to find the horrors I wish I'd not planted. And I'll also check back here before planting anything else!
  • White wisteria. All foliage, few blooms. Despite cutting back, it's a pest.
And not our planting, but is a problem, neighbour's sumac tree. It just loves our garden too.

  • Goji berry. I've never seen fruit on it and yet it is able to self seed all over the garden and it grows like topsy, in an untidy sprawl of uninteresting leaf shape and colour.
I did get fruit from mine, and purple flowers, but the fruit is sooo bitter I was convinced that I had eaten a poisonous variety. But no, it’s just terrible in the uk!
