It may struggle in a very sunny site @Songbird-2. Most Sarcococca tend to be best with some shade, and reasonable moisture. You'll have to wait and see if it thrives, and if it doesn't, you can always try moving it to a better site

@Songbird-2 I think it might be better with more shade and a retentive soil. I notice the scent on a warmer, sunny breezy day. I have never been able to smell it by standing next to it a having a sniff. You are more likely to smell it when you are elsewhere in the garden and it is carried on the air. I have grown one happily for years in deep shade.

@Fairygirl and @GardenerSuze, thanks very much for that information. If it does start to look as if it's struggling, I will take it out and plant it in the back garden along the more easier border. Where it is does get very hot during the summer so that's probably why it's never got very big. Thanks👍 Every day a learning day!
The only sign of Spring here is some foliage emerging of the winter aconites.
No sign of anything else ... which I'm actually pleased about. The last thing we need is a warmish spell that encourages growth which will be killed by the weather to come. I think of March as a winter month here, it can have some of the worst weather with hard and damaging frosts.
Spring will happen when it's supposed ... certainly by April. In the meantime I've got lots of gardening to do clearing all the borders and pruning.
A bit of weather doesn't stop me getting out there

@Bee witched Yes I have just two aconites in bud. I love to see large areas of them but in my garden they just hang on each year always a few but they never spread.

Indeed, although April can still be very iffy here. Snow is common during April, or hail/sleet at least, which isn't great if you want to get small plants hardened off, or seed properly into growth. We have warnings for rain then ice tonight and tomorrow. Pretty normal though.
