Apparently the folk who use heating oil for their homes will not receive any of the rebates which is scandalous. It can't be that difficult to get their details from the local oil suppliers or have the owners supply copies of previous bills?
Last year I changed all of our Light bulbs for LED, 60w bulb uses 8w power. I’m sure that’s made a difference to the bill. At the time they were on BOGOF offer from Tesco.

@Uff, it was mentioned in the Telegraph a day or so ago I think. I noticed it as my sister and her partner use heating oil for their house.
Presumably those people who do so pay up front several months in advance and there's no easy way to reimburse them so the Government are not bothering. As far as I can gather, the rebates are going directly to the gas/electric companies who will then rebate the relevant amount off everybody's bills. I may have misunderstood though.

As there's no mains gas within 10 miles of my house. I don't have the option of gas.
In our town we operate a 'warm rooms' scheme where people can go and sit in a succession of places, like our local community theatre or the library - they can even have a cup of tea or coffee and a natter with others. There were a few people who took advantage of that last year and I expect more will do it this. I would imagine they would go back to cold homes though.
We may be one of the largest economies in the world but most people who complain about heating costs will be the same people who will fly away for a holiday or spend money in McDonald's or have the best phone and to me If they can do that they aren't short of money. The old ones who stay in all day will just manage as they always have to such as my 85 year old mother who even though I'll pay her bills will still turn the heating down or off
I’m sorry @mac12 but you must be completely out of touch with what’s going on. I know plenty of hardworking folk who are worried stiff about their power bills … folk who’ve not been on any sort of holiday, let alone a foreign one, in decades. Folk who don’t eat out, always buy economical food and cook from scratch, recycle goods and clothes and hardly ever have anything new .., folk who live in rented homes and are already on expensive pay as you go meters, folk to whom an occasional bottle of beer each with sausage and chips on a Friday night once in a while is a real treat. They’re worried stiff.

I'm still trying to prove to British gas that they have deducted the last tenants debt from our metre as we have been paying between £40 and £50 per week for electric alone for over 6 years..... Haven't got anywhere so far.... Can't say we are happy about trying to pay anymore
