I have been meaning to post for a while. Sorry if others have said this before. I am not deliberately not mowing, it's been so dry I don't think I have mown even once a month since March. The problem with that is the gross is now full of plantain, dandelions, and course grasses . Not a good look.

No mow July by default! It's been 3 weeks since I mowed the lawn, and it still doesn't look like it needs mowing yet!
This is part of my no-mow wild edge to the 'lawn'. I'm not sure I can call it a lawn really as it doesn't fit the job description. This weather is great for ripening grass seed and the sparrows have been having a good old feed of seed this morning. Lots of happy bees and I'm trapping some interesting moths that rely on white clover for their life cycle. The shimmering green metallic wonder that is the Meadow Case-Bearer (photo below) is one example. Related to the Case-Bearing Clothes Moth but not interested in eating your woolly socks.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
It's been a great year for orchids around here. I counted over 100 plants in one small patch locally and they've been popping up all over the place. The big patch is in an area that NRW bulldozed flat a few years ago when they logged out all the larch in the woods. They cut a ditch around the edge and it's made a great bit of habitat for damp loving things.
NRW contractors have been up today and strimmed down all the orchids It was a big patch of wildflowers in a woodland, in an area that isn't used for anything at all and they cut the lot for no good reason that I can see apart from to keep the contractors in work. This photo was the before shot, you can see how dense the orchids are.

Thanks for that video, @Fire. I found it interesting, looking at the pros and cons of the different options. Personally, I don't think that our lawn looks shabby after 2-3 weeks of not mowing. I really like the daisies, clover and recently, self-heal, that pop up; our neighbours probably don't agree but they're too polite to comment.
