our red banana is very tatty can I cut it right back some sites say yes others no advice please

    You can cut them back. Start up high and cut into it. so long as it's fresh and white, it'll bounce back. If not white, cut down a bit lower until you find fresh flesh

    I'd trim off the tatty leaves but leave the growing point intact - this is the youngest leaf in the centre.  There's a video on this link which may help you:
