I'm dreading the price of the next tank of heating oil

I'm now keeping my central heating (combi boiler) at 18oC night and day. It's enough to keep things ambiently comfortable. It can be bumped up if needed.

Evening!  I paid 89c/litre around the 12th October for a top up.  Over 500 litres it would have been 87c/litre.  Since, it has gone up to 1.07c/litre.

At the moment, it's colder inside than outside.

Being in the South of France the weather is milder and the winter is later in coming.  October has been beautiful and with a conservatory, it has heated the lounge enough to keep us warm until 10pm-ish.   I usually light the fire every evening from about mid-October onwards, not this year.   Daylight saving, gloomy weather, the fire is on during the evening now until the central heating goes on .....mid November but we could get that sudden cold snap.  My boiler also heats the water.  I have solar panels but sell the energy to EDF for a better price than I buy from them.

We put our pyjamas and dressing gowns on and snuggle under a blanket on the couch.
During the day - leggings, trakkies and jerseys and lovely yak shawls from Daram Salah and Nepal.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    Hi @Hostafan1,

We've just paid 55p (inc VAT) per litre for our oil .... bit less than we thought it might be.
We're hoping it will be our last tankful ever as we're getting quotes in for a heat pump. Some good incentives up here at the moment, so we're keen to go for it.

My tariff for the last three years has been  "Brexit Protect October21"

So I should have been told what are my new tariff options but I guess as the industry is presently in termoil, they haven't a clue what to charge at the moment. "But I've given them a nudge."

I was originally against having a "smart meter" as I know it would be possible in the future to start charging us "peak rates" for electricity.

But  I want to come off a day/night tariff as no longer having a koi pool I'm not running a lot of stuff over night. So it makes sense.
I'd have been charged for the exchange of meters, but with a smart meter I can't see how they can.
I'm not that worried at the moment. I can't see us walking around in coats whatever the cost becomes. But I might start turning off a few lights. But as they're led there won't be much of a saving.

We do have an oil furnace as well as our pellet furnace, we were told that it costs 3x as much as the pellets do. (about £1.60 per liter) so we've not even considered buying any.

I've just put it on, first frost,it's 2.8c outside, its not on ', timed', yet. It's sunny will soon hit the lounge.am also with Octopus meter reading ready for the new month, will look up my gas rate,Fire it's now 3.12 gas,but I did a 2 year fix in July. Skandi, I told my hubby who much you pay,he said a very rude word! Although we're detached,we have replaced all windows and doors n the last few years to double/triple A rated, and have cavity wall insulation. Been watching that series Save money,my eco Home, telling you,you can save hundreds of pounds per year by getting this that and the other,NOT mentioning the outlay or re-coup costs. If you wanted to be completely "green"why remove and destroy a perfectly good bathroom suite and knock down walls and change them completely. Our double glazing was 25years old,and blown. The back still had the original 1965 wooden single glazed windows, the surveyor was really excited!

I'm surprised you need your heating on at that level all the time @Fire. Is your house badly insulated?
Mine is only on for half an hour now and again just now. A light frost this morning, but it's only been on for that length of time. It's been very mild here in the last two months, and we would normally need it far more than we have, but it helps with the costs, so I'm not complaining.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
