CABBAGE - clueless. Really really clueless

Hello Everyone:)

I have no doubt that a good giggle will be had by had by all and I wouldn't have it any other way 😀

I am no gardener in any way, shape or form.  I'd have a hard time telling the difference between a blade of grass and a nettle.

Anyway, many weeks ago I put a white cabbage (wrapped in plastic) in the fridge and it somehow missed the firdge clean outs in the following weeks and then this happened (pic 1).

So feeling very clever indeed and more than a little curious, I stuck it in some multipurpose compost, grabbed a beer and waited.  Well nothing happened 😉   And then almost over night it turned in to picture 2.

I've had a Google and I THINK this is called bolting but I have no idea what that means.

What I did find was that this looks more like a napa Chinese cabbage flower?  I thought it was a white cabbage.  I suppose they're the same thing??

Anyway, shall I pull it up and bin it or just wait and see where this magic and sorcery takes me.

I'm guessing I'm getting super excited at growing a weed.....

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

You planted the flowering stem and it grew. There may eventually be seeds when the flowers are over. It won't grow into a new round cabbage. For that, seeds will have to be sown next spring. You are right, it is called bolting.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
