Finally reasonably happy with the lawn after months of hard work, love and affection. Dahlia Akita almost in full bloom and gladiolus has just bloomed. The garden is home to many happy insects. Summer in southern Norway has been pretty good this year😎
I too enjoyed the Philippa Gregory books on John Tradescant @Fran IOM and was astounded by how prized horse chestnuts were. A reminded that there wasn't always the wide variety of plants we have available to us now, from all over the world. Lovely dierama @BenCotto - I planted 5 this year (2 in large pots). One sent up two flower spikes and another sent up one but they are young plants yet, so I'm encouraged for more next year. So many new and lovely garden and plants pics since I was last on this thread! Here's a combination I'm particularly pleased with at the moment:
Gladiolus papilio Ruby with dahlia Soulman and Lily 'Flore Pleno' in the background with the dark leaves of a eupatorium in there too.
Some from my garden today, as you can see I'm in the "cram them in so you can't see the weeds" school of thought. The first one is the shady corner of the patio with the bin store behind, the camelia at the back is in a pot and looks as if it will have lots of flowers next spring.
@didyw I always visualised John Senior as looking like Monty whilst I was reading the book but if you google him and his son there is no comparison! They must have had very little in the way of tools and probably used a scythe to cut the grass. Back breaking work. @Suesyn Lovely pictures of your garden. Is that a silver birch in your first photo? My son planted one for me over two years ago now on my allotment garden and it must be around 12 foot high. How long have you had yours and how tall would you say it was? I have that feeling that it won't stop growing upwards for some time to come.
