Help please

hi All. I recently salvaged two of these from a neighbour who had taken them out of pots and left to die. I have potted them with compost but wondered what they are and if there is anything else i can do to give me the best chance of salvaging them?

It looks a bit like Bay laurel. Cut off all the obviously dead bits, that will help you see and shape what's left. (If you are not sure of a piece is dead scrape the bark a little if there is green underneath it's alive so leave it).  Water well & give it some liquid seaweed on the soil and extra dilute on the leaves (seaweed tonic  has micro-nutrients in it so tends to help plants recover).
