    Quite so Topbird.
I'm fond of saying 'you can't reason with unreasonable people', and I think it applies here   ;)

No need to worry @debs64. I was ashamed to be Scottish when we had one who caused a stooshie a few years ago. She was fond of appearing whenever there was a niggle. They can't seem to help themselves. Perhaps we should feel sorry for them  :D

I have occasionally thought about growing some in a pot, I suppose the way some people panic as if it is going to eat our children then our house, I know the dangers but it is an attractive plant. Any thoughts?
this has been an interesting introduction to the forum, some people seemed to quickly decide I was making mischief, (trolling, flame baiting, WUMing, shitstirring) called an idiot a few times and retarded once, reported!

The first sentence: 'I have occasionally thought' etc was a simple statement of fact: I have occasionally thought about doing it, the second part: 'the way some people panic etc', well I still think there is a bit of overreaction, It may have been taken as criticism, but  haven't seen how it is so bad myself, not nearly as bad as bindweed  or Himalayan Balsam or even brambles. There re two gardens up our street which have JKW and there is clearly no gardening going on, but it hasn't spread significantly in 4 years.

After reading some of the advice here, if someone made the suggestion to me I would say, you are allowed to grow it but there are significant problems so maybe list the good things and the bad things and see which list is most persuasive.

Someone said it was akin to keeping a wild animal, well maybe a monkey not really like a tiger, not sure what the law is regarding the keeping of exotic pets, but again the sensible thing would be to find out the potential problems and either don't do it or if you do, take all reasonable precautions.

If you're not used to forums, then you could be forgiven for not realising that to put up a first post in a community which is suggesting doing something that is, as you put it yourself, silly, you are likely to be met with deep suspicion. This forum -and most others - is trolled regularly by people proposing some highly contentious course of action simply to provoke an argument.

Had you asked 'is JKW actually as bad as its press?' you may have got a more measured response. Then again, there are people who scent an argument and pile in regardless of how carefully the initial query is worded, so possibly it makes no difference. Your 'introduction to the forum' is that you are generally being given the benefit of the doubt. If you are genuine, you'll leave it at that.

JKW is on a number of invasive species lists, subject to legal and regulatory constraints in regard to its management and disposal. Given how fast it grows, disposal is a real issue, even if you grow it in a pot. Legally, it is not considered as problematic as Giant Hogweed, to pick that specific example. You are not obliged to destroy JKW on your own land. You can be fined just for growing Giant Hogweed.
