You've done a phenomenal job. Love that Tiki bar!

    keep up the good work.
I'd still suggest bigger borders and lose the grass and just have a path. Saves mowing it. ;)

Yeah I must admit the grass is much more difficult to maintain than I'd thought.  The grass to the front of the Tiki bar will be coming out.  I'll be taking out more to add plants around the pond too as and when I get the chance  :)

I also tried germinating some Trachy seeds and three have literally just sprouted in the last day or two

  • Your garden's looking great Toddmeister. I read somewhere in the thread that you're looking to add height? Tetrapanax grows really fast  or how about an obelisk with climbers? I have passion fruit and clematis doing really well here in northeast England. You could even hang some kokedamas which look jungly and are fun to make :) Plants with a strong perfume would add to the tropical feeling too such as acidanthera, night phlox,  jasmine, honeysuckle and stargazer lilies, especially if they're near your pond, the scent is stronger near water.
  • Grasses and ferns could look tropical, and Hostas give that lush leafy green, good to grow in large pots with copper band around to stop the slugs. I grew a Cordyline when i lived in York which ended up like a palm tree so that could look good in a few years.    How are you getting on ? hope you are enjoying your new hobby :)
  • I LOVE THIS GARDEN.

I love both tropical planting and Tiki, so this ticks all kinds off boxes. I'd love to have more tropical but I really don't have anywhere to store the non hardy stuff in winter.

    Tidy joinery work too!
  • Thanks all.

Just been looking at the picture above from July. Can't believe how much my Banana has grown just in the last month or so. I now don't know what I'm going to do with it over winter 😂
