Thank you for this reminder, Sam.  No, it won't be missed, he's rather good.

I was thinking of going to Scotland and I've a strong suspicion that it would be cheaper to fly, which is a shame because going by train would be a part of the holiday - a proper holiday journey
I suspect flying is, indeed, cheaper but, perhaps, a holiday is a holiday!

I watched it.  I had always felt that, perhaps, Tory governments had peculiar ideas about "coloureds", but Churchill's suggestion in 1955 they should fight the next election on the slogan “Keep England White” rather shocked me.

Over 70 years of successive governments employing underhand ways to hide their hostility and prejudices against people who happened to have a different skin colour!  Shameful then and shameful today.

A powerful review by Amelia Gentleman here:

  • I've recorded it, Helen, but not seen it yet.  It sounds rather upsetting.

You know that Amelia Gentleman is the wife of Jo Johnson, BoJo's brother?  He, very much a Tory; she, not.  It must be like sleeping with the enemy!

I knew Amelia Gentleman was an award winning journalist, Danae, but I hadn't imagined that she was the wife a Tory!  He's, apparently, the MP for Orpington.  I'm fairly sure that Alex came from Orpington.  She used to write regularly here but then she disappeared very suddenly.  I wonder if anyone knows anything about her.

Hi Sam, Alex stopped suddenly when her youngest son was involved in a rather serious car accident.  They lived in Orpington at the time but her husband was French, working for an American bank in London.  A few months later, he was moved to Canada, so they no longer live in England or even in Europe!  I think things are fine now and, though she misses Kent, she likes Canada.  A lot!

Thank you, Phaidra.  Good to know everything is all right now.
  •  Just watched The Unwanted.  Gosh!  Politicians justifying their prejudices; secret race serveys; and the perennial assumption that migrants reason for coming was to live off

    the welfare state.

Things don't change, do they?  Racists and xenophobes are forever in our midst.  It's so common to love to hate....

No, they don't: lies, justifications and ...moral support!
